Welcome to the new, update web site for Colorado Citizens for Peace.
Please join us every Saturday from Noon till 1:00PM at the corner of 52nd Avenue and Wadsworth Blvd. in Arvada.
We gather to promote peace in the world and to call for an end to U.S. involvement in the war and occupation of Iraq.
Why We are Here and Who We Are
At the regular meeting of the Arvada Peace and Justice Commission on January 2005, the concept was given birth to start an on-going peace vigil in the city of Arvada. This vigil would official begin on February 25, 2005, at the intersections of W. 52nd Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, from noon until 1:00 P.M.
We were simply known as the Arvada Peace Vigil. In the beginning, there were days when only a handful of us would be challenging the elements. Our turning point came when the Denver Post was willing to cover our vigil. After the article was printed, our presence grew stronger and our extended peace vigil family moved to different parts of the city --- 1st and University in Denver -- (Cherry Creek Peace Vigil) -- and W. Colfax Avenue and Denver West for the Women In Black.
Just before Halloween Eve of 2005, twelve of us gathered at twilight to remember the 2,000 soldiers who had gave their lives in the Iraqi War. In December, two other groups began to form -- North Metro Peace Vigil located at W. 92nd Avenue and Sheridan -- and a 'Time for Peace' at 50th Avenue and Lowell. We had non-violence training at Arvada United Methodist Church in January 2006 -- 17 members attended.
The Arvada Press reported on our first year anniversary remembrance. It was truly a successful day. We had over 60 persons in attendance.
In our second year, our presence "at the corners has grwon stronger. In March, we decided to change our name because the "Arvada Peace Vigil" did not represent the people attending regularly. Colorado Citizens for Peace was finalized after July 4th, after many hours of discussion.
On Memorial Day weekend we had over 32 persons at our corners; and 100 white crosses were placed on a nearby lawn at the site.
Our future plans include having a Candidates Forum addressing the main issue of 'What is Each Candidate's Position in Regrads to Bringing Our Troops Home?'; participating in the Arvada Harvest Festival Parade; securing Cindy Sheehan as a guest; a non-violence training session later this fall; and finally we hope to maintain our presence strong and long. We don't know what the future may bring, but we will be there every Saturday.
Other goals for the Colorado Citizens for Peace involve having a 12 or 24 hour vigil with a coalition of peace and justice groups joining in solidarity, and possibly a long extended march through the city of Arvada to bring attention to the Iraqi War/Occupation.
As a closing thought, I would like to share with you a personal quote that I dreamed more than a month ago. This thought has grown from the on-going peace vigil experience that is still in process: "We have to see peace within ourselves so that it can transcend human injustices and prejudices, and be passed down to humanity in light and love -- one person at a time."
Peace,
Cindy Lowry

Hi fellow 52nd & Wadsworth Peace Activists.
I want to offer my hearty congratulations on a fine website. A great improvement.
Good work Dave.
Today Sat. 02/17 my plan for the day fell apart and I could not be at the Corner with you , but I continue to support your effort, as I have for going on two years now.
I hope to be back with you next weekend if all goes well.
I have been heavily involved in the Weekly Vigils To Impeach project which I think we must all consider is the
surest way to Stop the Iraq War and rein in the Bush/Cheney Family Crimes.
Our Website
http://www.J3L.us
has info about our effort.
We are moving to a new Server and rebuilding the website over the next week so bear with us.
This Idea was really 'Born At 52nd & Wadsworth' and 'Cindy's Vigiling Style' and ideas have been a great influence on me and others in our group.
Thank you Cindy.
I hope you all will consider investing an hour at Noon during the week to help us Stop The Iraq War and Impeach Bush & Cheney at E 14th & Lincoln (Wed.) and E 6th & Grant (Thurs.).
We have done Weekly Vigils To Impeach, every Wednesday for three weeks now, warm or freezing (at Noon at 14th & Lincoln)
And for three weeks we have done the same at US Rep DeGette's Office (at Noon at E 6th & Grant) to pressure her to use her new power and influence to Stop The Iraq War and Impeach Bush & Cheney. As one of our signs says "We love DeGette but we want out of iraq and 'W' Impeached".
The response is amazing. I have been trying different types of sign messages and finally found a doosey. On extremely cold days when only a few come my new sign saves the day. You'd think there were 30 there.
Impeachment can be fun... join us!
Again, it is a fine website. Keep up the good work.
