From Colorado Citizens for Peace organizer, Cindy Lowry:
Since the posting of my update message back in August, we have accomplished the most of what we had hoped for inthe coming months.+ In mid-July, we collected $100 dollars for the March for Peace group and sent to it to them. For the month of November, vigil participants are encouraged to wear an orange shirt with the word "Enough'.+ On September 7, 2007, we had a wonderful display for the Arvada Harvest Festival Parade. Gary Schram built a great large black standard coffin with handles that we draped with a torned American flag. We planted our 100 white symbolic crosses in the lawn next to Lone Star and Virginia Dennis made large graphic artwork for her Home Depot corner that were displayed. It was very successful.
+ On September 29, we held a Non-Violence Training at the Arvada United Methodist Church. Twelve individuals from the peace vigil attend, and we learned a great deal.
+ On October 13, we had the Eyes Wide Open Exhibit in McIIvoy Park for the citizens of Arvada and surrounding cities. Unfortunately the weather was cold and damp, and the Rockies had just won NCLS so our attendance was low; but we had wonderful media and press converage. We were in the Denver Post on October 8, I spoke on KGNU on October 12, and we were on Channel 2 news at 9:00 PM on October 13. Bringing the Eyes Wide Open Exhibit to Arvada in itself was accomplishment ... and City Hall didn't give us any trouble.
In the coming year, we hope to pursue the Arvada Harvest Festival Parade again simply because it is an election year and we need to have our presence there. We will also hopefully participate in some way at the Democratic National Convention next August. Other ideas we will discuss will include having a 'die-in' on our corner, putting together a cookbook with our receipes, maybe doing a march through Arvada, and hopefully not having to have an additional night vigil if President George W. Bush doesn't invade in Iran -- we CAN ONLY HOPE.
